Goddard Covered Bridge was once again the center of the Covered Bridge Festival.
Beginning with a parade that honored Pete McNeill as Grand Marshall,
the 13th festival brought a day full of browsing, shopping eating and

Herman Chittison was a world-famous jazz musician who lived right here
in Flemingsburg. He was born in 1908 and grew up on East Water Street.
While his childhood home no longer stands, memories of his music is
still heard about around the world.

A young mother and her 2 year old son were killed in an automobile accident on the Flemingsburg by-pass Friday, August 20.

she was apparently distracted by something that caused her to cross
over to the eastbound shoulder of the highway, striking a FedEx truck.

Fleming County Hospital CEO Davie Lloyd, 38, has been pulled into a
public custody battle due to actions from her former husband.
Each year the Kentucky State Fair plays host to FFA chapters from all
across the state, representing the 14,000 members in KY FFA. Members
show up ready to compete in Agriculture Mechanics, Seed ID, Meats
Judging, Livestock Judging, Auctioneering, and Welding.

As an Avon consultant, Donna Bumgardner does a lot of driving around
town. Drivers in Flemingsburg might notice her riding her silver and
red scooter, a Chuanl 150cc, with silver detailing on the trunk that
reads “The Avon Lady.”

A couple charged in the death of their daughter has been convicted in Fleming Circuit Court.
The trial that began Aug. 2 ended close to 7 p.m. Aug. 11 when the jury
returned with a verdict of guilty against both Jessica Marie Allen and
Terry Joe Buchanan for criminal abuse. Buchanan was found guilty of
first-degree manslaughter while Allen was convicted of complicity to
first-degree manslaughter in the death of their daughter Kaylee Jo
Buchanan, who was 3 months old. The infant died at the University of
Kentucky Medical Center July 23, 2008, according to testimony at the
trial.
Hoedown in the Holler, a new country music festival is planned for
Saturday, Oct. 2 at Mandolin Farms, the inaugural event will be
headlined by Curb Records recording artist Lee Brice. Brice’s current
single “Love Like Crazy” has spent 50 weeks on the Billboard Country
charts and is currently number six in the country. “Love Like Crazy”
is also number five on the CMT Top 20 Video Countdown.

Magistrates take back controversial raises given to county road employees last month.
At the regularly scheduled Fleming county fiscal court meeting on Aug.
10, it was voted to reverse the pay raise that was previously given to
three county employees. At the July 13 meeting, a motion made by
Magistrate Kenny Souder to increase the salaries of three men who work
primarily as mowers carried with a 4-2 vote. Souder was not present at
the Aug. 10 meeting.

The Herman Chittison Celebration of the Arts is gearing up for another big time in the park.
The festival to be Held Saturday Sept. 11 in City Park, honors jazz
pianist Herman Chittison. This year offers something for everyone and
includes a barbeque contest that has grills burning all over the area.

Maintenance of water tanks was the main topic at Flemingsburg City Council meeting Monday night.
The city owns five tanks that require painting and repairs to pass
inspections mandated by the Kentucky Division of Water. One tank
located at A. Raymond Tinnerman has been leaking for several days, a
situation that Utilities Supervisor Joe Dunaway has been trying to
rectify.

on record, has taken a toll everywhere, including the tobacco market.
By Danetta Barker The top law enforcement official in Flemingsburg has been disciplined, according to City Hall. Mayor Louie Flanery said that disciplinary action was taken against Chief Randy Sergent Monday. Flanery said according to laws governing personnel and police offers he is not at liberty to give more details. Although Flanery said more information about the disciplinary action will be available as the situation unfolds.
By Danetta Barker Changes are waiting for students returning to Fleming County Schools next week. A new principal at Fleming County High School is ready to start a new challenge. Robert Bowers has 22 years in the education field and four as principal at Pulaski County High School. He is excited about his new position and his new life in Fleming County. “It re-energizes me to get another shot at helping students and teachers,” Bowers said. “This is a new challenge and I want to make a positive impact.”
FLEMINGSBURG -- A man wanted as a suspect in a West Virginia murder, and the shooting and kidnapping of his estranged wife, was arrested in Fleming County Saturday. Darrell Davis, 48, of Cattletsburg, allegedly shot and killed Gary Newsome in a cabin in Lenore, W. Va., then set the building on fire, officials said. Firefighters in Mingo County, W. Va.,discovered Newsome's body about 10:30 a.m., Saturday while responding to a burning building call on Newsome Ridge.
Some people have huge hearts for animals. Sandy Collins of Flemingsburg cannot turn away a stray cat, or let an animal go hungry. Over the years, she has taken in many homeless animals, and currently has five cats and one dog. Toby, a long haired calico, was a homeless kitten when Sandy took him in. “He was a little bitty thing in the middle of nowhere, just a couple of months old,” she said. He had been abandoned on the side of a rural Fleming County road.

He has also impacted the lives of many soldiers and patients through his counseling. David Lindberg, a retired psychologist and current Sunday School teacher for college students at Flemingsburg Baptist Church says he has always known who would be his most faithful friend and trusted role model.
