LEXINGTON, KY – Thirty contestants from across the state will be vying
for the title of Miss Kentucky 2010 and for the first time ever the
public will have the opportunity to decide which contestant will become
one of the semi-finalists on the final night of competition.
The “Kentucky’s Choice” winner will be determined through an Internet vote. Those wishing to participate can visit the Miss Kentucky website, www.misskentuckypageant.com, and vote for their favorite contestant. It is $1 per vote and there is no limit to the amount of votes that can be cast. Miranda Sergent, Miss Bluegrass Area, is the daughter of Randy and Misty Sergent of Flemingsburg. She is majoring in Communication Disorders at the University of Kentucky and plans to obtain a degree in Speech Pathology and become a Speech Therapist. Sergent’s platform issue is “Making More Sense - Education and Awareness of Teen Dating Violence” and she will be performing a vocal performance to the song “Address in the Stars” for her talent presentation. The 2010 Miss Kentucky Pageant will be held at the Singletary Center for the Arts on the campus of the University of Kentucky in Lexington. This year marks the 75th Anniversary of the Miss Kentucky Pageant. Among the featured entertainers at this year’s pageant will be: Miss America 2000, Heather French Henry; Miss America 2004, Ericka Dunlap; Miss Kentucky 1998, Chera-Lyn Cook Kennedy and Miss Kentucky 2009, Mallory Ervin. Also attending as a special guest at the pageant this year is Miss America 2010, Caressa Cameron, who won the Miss America title this past January at the national pageant held in Las Vegas. Cameron, along with former Miss Kentucky’s, will be appearing at an autograph signing at Miss Priss in Victorian Square in downtown Lexington on Saturday, July 17, from 1 - 3 PM. The cost is $20 and includes a photo with Miss America. Proceeds will benefit the Children’s Miracle Network and the Miss Kentucky Scholarship Organization. Preliminary competitions for the pageant will be held on Thursday, July 15 and Friday, July 16 starting at 7:00 pm. Saturday, July 17, beginning at 7:30 pm is the final night of competition culminating with the crowning of the new Miss Kentucky. Tickets for the preliminaries and final competition are available by calling the Singletary Center Box Office at 859-257-4929. Preliminary night tickets are $25 per night and tickets for the final night are $50. Over $36,000 in cash scholarships will be awarded to contestants in addition to numerous prizes and in-kind scholarships to various colleges and universities. The new Miss Kentucky will advance to the Miss America Pageant which will be held on January 15, 2011, in Las Vegas and broadcast live on ABC. Also, the winner will speak in schools across the state promoting the Kentucky Department of Agriculture’s “Kentucky Proud” Program educating students of all grade levels on the benefits of buying products and goods grown and produced in Kentucky.
