Wait…Wait…Wait…

Isaiah 26:8  Yea, in the way of thy judgments, O LORD, have we waited for thee; the desire of our soul is to thy name, and to the remembrance of thee.

The Advent season, which we are now in, is about waiting: we wait for Christmas, anticipating the remembrance of Christ’s birth. We are to cease our hurrying and listen for God’s voice in the Scriptures. In Advent, we recognize that we are waiting for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, too. And waiting is not easy for us to do. Do you remember how hard it was to wait for Christmas when you were a child? We may be able to wait for that now, but we still have a hard time waiting for many other things.
Most people have some measure of impatience in their lives. Does it bother you to stand in line somewhere? Does it irritate you if someone takes more than a day to return an email? Are you like me and have to take the coffee pot out to pour the first cup before it even finishes brewing? May I say that I am thankful that someone invented “pause and serve”—bless you, whoever and wherever you are. Do we ever get impatient? Yes. It is a way of life for many people.
But it is not good. Advent is God’s message to us that He wants us to slow down, believe on Him and His Word, and wait patiently for the return of His Son, Jesus Christ.
