Entries are now being sought for the Annual Community Christmas Parade
and Window Decorating Contest. The theme this year is “Your Favorite
Christmas Song.”
According to Fleming County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director
Crystal Ruark, time to enter is growing short. The parade will be held
Friday, Dec. 4 with lineup at 5 p.m. at Double S Entertainment and the
parade starting at 5:30 p.m. The route is a little different this year
due to construction on courthouse hill.
“We are going to have the awards for floats at the corner of Main Cross
and Electric Avenue,” Ruark said. “Traffic will be blocked on the
street so parade entries can line on Main Cross to be judged.”
The route will be from the Double S down Water Street to Main. Entries can take the right turn onto Main Street and circle the courthouse and come back down Main Cross to line up on the street in front of Flemingsburg Police Department. Anyone entering a float or other entry will need to complete an application which can be picked up at the chamber office located above the police department, the city offices located in the old depot or the Flemingsburg Gazette office. Applications come with a waiver that must be signed and notarized. All entries from school organizations will abide by school policy for parades, Ruark said. Churches and other organizations will follow city rules which are attached to the applications. “There will no one throwing candy,” Ruark said. “Spotters will be walking along side the floats and handing out candy. We are trying to keep the little ones from running out into the street.” Ruark is asking for volunteers to help with the lineup of the entries. Anyone wishing to help can call Ruark or Debbie Richards at 606-845-9-1223. During Friendship Night several places will be open downtown. The Flemingsburg Gazette will have its annual open house with hot spiced cider, hot chocolate and cookies. The Fleming County Covered Bridge Museum will be open with refreshments and singing on the porch. “The Golden Chords will be singing Christmas Carols from the porch,” Ruark said. Dairy Queen will be open as will Downtown Girls and the new coffee shop the Cozy Bean, which is located on courthouse hill beside Solter’s Sporting Goods. “We would like everyone to come out and enjoy the Community Christmas Parade and Friendship Night,” Ruark said.
