Every year there are a few people who open up their homes to the public
and usher in the season of giving. This year is no exception. The Beta
Sigma Phi Christmas Home Tour is set for Dec. 6 with the homes open
from 2 -5 pm. Tickets are $10 per person and will be sold at Downtown
Girls, a new shop in Flemingsburg located on the corner of Main Cross
and Water Streets.
Beta Sigma Phi is proud to be able to help by giving back to our community with the money that is raised to go toward scholarships for high school seniors and many needy projects that come up throughout the year. The list of homes this year includes a wide range from Edwardian to country. Within the city the oldest home on the tour is 119 Mills Avenue, owned by Cathy Campbell. The house was built between 1910 and 1915 by Joseph H. Power Jr., where he lived until his death sometime in the 1940s. Campbell has lived in the home since 1989. Others who have lived house are Mr. and Mrs. Ray Davenport, Mr. and Mrs. Pete McNeill, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Brewer and Dr. and Mrs. Jerry Caudill. Campbell purchased the home from the Caudills. The house remains true to the original design with minor changes. Recently Campbell added a bathroom and eating room off the kitchen. Three homes are located in Greenbrook Subdivision. Steve and Chris Kelly live at 63 Eddie Street in a one floor ranch style home which has an atypical layout with the kitchen originating directly from the entrance hall. The layout is perfect for the Kellys who consider the kitchen the heart of the home. There is also a large dining room and great room with a fireplace. Outside there is a deck, pond and significant landscaping. The house is 11 years old and was one the first homes built in the subdivision. Next week the three remaining homes will be showcased.
The second home in Greenbrook is owned by David and Melinda McGlone. Located at 253 Austin Street, the home sits on a double lot and was custom built by Allen Moore for the McGlones in 2007. David and Melinda feel blessed to have the home, family, friends and neighbors. The third home in Greenbrook is that of Maria and Brad Fraser. The house has 2270 square feet and is located at 183 Joshua Street. The house is for sale and has three bedrooms, two baths and a two car garage. A large front porch provides a welcoming entrance for family and guests. Crown molding throughout the home gives it a distinctive look. The kitchen is fully equipped with stainless steel appliances, breakfast bar and plenty of cabinet space. The family room has vaulted ceilings and a gas log fireplace. A screened porch finishes out the back of the home. Farther down the Morehead Road, turn left onto Hall Road and drive to number 232, and there you will find a two story country home belonging to Donna and Tommy Fryman. They have lived in the home for four years. The Frymans said they bought the home after they learned through battling cancer that life is short. They decided to move to the place of their dreams so their children could have space to play, fish and enjoy the wildlife. The home is surrounded by woods. Donna Fryman has been working on the landscaping around the home since she moved there. She has added new garden beds and loves working outside. She has not ignored the inside, though, which is filled with unique decorating ideas. Many quilts and handmade decorations are evident through out the home.
