 Scripture: Mark 5:21-43
 “REACH OUT AND TOUCH SOMEONE”
Since she had heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his robe.  For she had been saying, “If I can just touch his robe, I will get well.”  Her bleeding stopped at once, and she felt in her body that she was healed from her illness. NIV Mark 5:27-29
The Bell System at one time used the slogan “Reach Out and Touch Someone.”  In our text here we read of a desperate woman reaching out for help in what was her last hope; and that was the touch of Jesus Christ.
The practice of healing has been associated with the act of “TOUCHING” for hundreds of years. Some tribes in the Amazon, people on the plains of Africa, and some Native Americans have recognized touch as a way of receiving healing.  Dr. Ashley Montagu in her book “Touching”  relates that there is a mounting body of evidence that has an immunological function related to the T-cells in the epidermis that can aid in fighting disease and can be stimulated into some of its functions by touch. (p198-200)

The little woman in our Scripture had been under the care of many doctors and wasn’t getting any better, but was getting worse.  Have you ever been in a situation where you tried just about everything, but nothing worked?  The woman in the story from Mark was impoverished, probably very discouraged and very sick!  She was at the end of her rope – Jesus was her ONLY OPTION!  She had tried everything that she knew to do. Then she heard of Jesus.  Her statement of belief changed her life:  “If I can but TOUCH  His clothes I shall be whole.” Jesus tells her that it is by “her faith that has made you well” then; Jesus tells the synagogue ruler about the young girl being dead... “Just Believe!”
This woman knew that: to be able to touch Jesus or be touched by Jesus means you must get “CLOSE” to Him. But, to do so she had to take a chance and reach out to him.  And “faith” opens the door and gives God permission to respond to our needs, of our spirit and very being.  Probably exhausted, the woman extended her hand and she reached through the bodies surrounding Jesus and touched the hem of Jesus’ garment. She was determined and focused!!
Jesus and the crowd were on their way to Jarius’ house, to see his sick daughter, but Jesus stopped for this little woman. – He is never too busy to help you.  So don’t be afraid to pick up the book we call the Bible, let your fingers do the walking and reach out and touch someone named Jesus...He might tell you to touch someone else as well.

Amen.
